It was in 1938, that William Ramsay, a metallurgist working for a renowned tool steel manufacturer, established his firm nitram Metal Heat Treatment and Engineering Co Ltd, specialising in the skilled work of providing leading aircraft, motor manufacturers and engineers, with the hardening process required, by using gas and electric furnaces, salt baths and chrome solutions.

Over the years nitram has gained an enviable reputation for quality, price and service, by investing in vacuum heat treatment equipment, enabling the work to be treated, in isolation from any outside contaminants such as moisture, salt, oxygen and other gases.
